Course Learning Objectives/Outcomes

By the end of the course, the Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, Social Worker or Psychologist will be able to:
-Name the two reasons for the reluctancy to accept the idea that Indian culture and spirituality may be important to the prevention and treatment of alcohol problems.
-Name the four key protective factors that contribute to resiliency in the face of historical trauma and other socio-ecological risk for alcohol abuse and suicide.

-Name four recommendations to improve current treatment programs.
-Name four aspects of the whole person that the Medicine Wheel focuses on.
-Explain a major factor that needs to be considered when evaluating culturally competent substance abuse prevention programs in rural Indian communities.
